Daily summary

Yesterday’s results,
first thing in the morning

Once Steam closes a Pacific Time day, GameEarn can send one quiet notification with yesterday’s revenue, units and your month so far.

  • One notification a dayTurn it off in Settings any time. With Hide amounts on, the notification says your results are ready without showing numbers.
  • Refreshes on its ownWidgets and the app check Steam about once an hour. The refresh button on a widget asks for new numbers right away.
  • Gentle on Steam’s limitsA normal day takes a few hundred requests — a small fraction of the Steam Web API’s 100,000-per-day limit.

No server in between

Your key stays on your phone.
Sales come straight from Steam.

GameEarn has no server that collects keys or sales. The app and its widgets call Steam’s Financial Web API directly from your device.

  • Stored in the system’s secure storageThe key lives in the iOS Keychain or is encrypted with the Android Keystore.
  • Sent only to SteamEvery request goes to partner.steam-api.com over HTTPS with the key in a header, never in the URL.
  • Sales stay on your deviceRevenue, units, wishlists and game names are kept in a file on your phone and are never uploaded — not even the developer can see them.
  • Remove it in one tapRemove the key in Settings and the key, the sales file and widget data are deleted together.

Get a Financial API key

Create a key in Steamworks
in about two minutes

GameEarn works with a Financial Web API key that you create yourself in Steamworks, the same way Valve’s documentation describes.

  1. Sign in to SteamworksOpen partner.steamgames.com with an account that can manage your organization’s users and permissions.
  2. Users & Permissions → Manage GroupsFrom the top menu, choose Users & Permissions, then Manage Groups.
  3. Create Financial API GroupClick Create Financial API Group and give it a name such as “GameEarn”. The group needs no users or apps.
  4. Copy the keyOpen the new group’s page. The Financial Web API key is shown there — copy the 32-character key and paste it into GameEarn.

Leave the IP allow list empty. The group’s Manage WebAPI Key section can restrict the key to certain IP addresses, but your phone’s IP changes whenever you switch networks, so an allow list would block it.

The key can read your organization’s financial data, so treat it like a password. You can revoke the key or delete the group in Steamworks at any time — GameEarn will simply stop updating.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is this an official Steam or Valve app?

No. Earning Widget for Steam Developers is an independent app by LEEDLAB. It uses the Steamworks Financial Web API with a key you create yourself, and it is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation. Steam and the Steam logo are trademarks of Valve Corporation.

Where does my data go?

Nowhere but your phone. The key is kept in the iOS Keychain or encrypted with the Android Keystore, and sales, wishlists and game names are stored in a file on the device. Requests go directly from your phone to Steam (partner.steam-api.com). There is no GameEarn server or account.

The app sends a few anonymous operational events (install, app open, key added or failed) and crash reports, which never include your key or any sales figure. You can turn them off in Settings.

What can the key access?

A Financial API key can read sales and wishlist reports for every app your Steamworks partner account owns or has been granted view access to. It is read-only: it cannot change store pages, prices, builds or payments. GameEarn only calls the sales, changed-dates and wishlist reporting endpoints.

Why are the numbers slightly different from Steamworks?

GameEarn reads the same Financial Web API that powers Steamworks sales reports, but a few things can make the numbers look slightly different:

  • Sales days follow Pacific Time. Steam reports each sale on a Pacific Time (PT) date, so “Today” starts at midnight PT, not at midnight where you are.
  • Late settlement. Steam keeps updating recent days as card payments settle and refunds come in. GameEarn downloads a whole day again whenever Steam marks it as changed, so recent days can move up or down for a while.
  • Net revenue is before Valve’s share. “Net” is gross sales minus refunds and sales tax/VAT, before the Steam revenue share, chargebacks and payment adjustments. Switch to gross in Settings if you prefer.
  • Retail key activations are left out. CD-key activations carry no money, so they are not counted. In-game purchases (microtransactions) are counted under their game.
  • The first import may still be running. Until every past day has been downloaded, lifetime totals are partial.
  • Hidden games. Games you hide in GameEarn are left out of totals and widgets.

Your monthly payments from Valve are the final word. Treat the numbers in GameEarn as an up-to-date estimate.

How long does the first import take?

GameEarn downloads every day since your first sale, newest first, so this month’s numbers appear within seconds. A game with a few years of history can take a few minutes to finish, and wishlist history fills in afterward.

Does it cost anything?

GameEarn is free and supported by ads in the app. Widgets never show ads. A one-time “Remove ads” purchase turns them off for good — it is not a subscription.

Can I try it without a key?

Yes. Tap Explore with sample data on the first screen to see the full dashboard and widgets with a sample studio.
