To help us find the problem quickly, include your device model, OS version, app version (bottom of Settings), the exact error text and the steps that cause it. If you attach screenshots, feel free to turn on Hide amounts first.
Getting started
- Create a Financial API keyIn Steamworks, go to Users & Permissions → Manage Groups → Create Financial API Group and copy the key. Step by step
- Add the keyPaste it into GameEarn and tap Check and save. The app checks it with Steam first, then stores it on your device only.
- Let the first import runThis month appears within seconds; older history and wishlists keep filling in while the app is open.
- Add a widgetAdd GameEarn to your Home Screen or Lock Screen to see this month’s revenue without opening the app.
Want to look around first? Tap Explore with sample data on the first screen.
Creating a Financial API key
- Sign in to SteamworksOpen partner.steamgames.com with an account that can manage your organization’s users and permissions.
- Users & Permissions → Manage GroupsFrom the top menu, choose Users & Permissions, then Manage Groups.
- Create Financial API GroupClick Create Financial API Group and give it a name such as “GameEarn”. The group needs no users or apps.
- Copy the keyOpen the new group’s page. The Financial Web API key is shown there — copy the 32-character key and paste it into GameEarn.
Leave the IP allow list empty. The group’s Manage WebAPI Key section can restrict the key to specific IP addresses. Phones change IP addresses whenever they switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, so any allow list will eventually block GameEarn.
You can revoke the key or delete the group in Steamworks at any time; GameEarn will stop updating and ask for a new key. Valve’s reference for this API is IPartnerFinancialsService.
Where is my data?
On your phone, and only there. The key is kept in the iOS Keychain or encrypted with the Android Keystore. Sales, wishlists, player counts and game names are saved in a file inside the app’s storage and are never uploaded. Requests go straight from your phone to Steam (partner.steam-api.com); there is no GameEarn server and no account.
Anonymous operational events and crash reports never contain your key or any figure, and you can turn them off in Settings → Usage statistics & error reports. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Why are numbers slightly different from Steamworks?
GameEarn reads the same Financial Web API that powers Steamworks sales reports, but a few things can make the numbers look slightly different:
- Sales days follow Pacific Time. Steam reports each sale on a Pacific Time (PT) date, so “Today” starts at midnight PT, not at midnight where you are.
- Late settlement. Steam keeps updating recent days as card payments settle and refunds come in. GameEarn downloads a whole day again whenever Steam marks it as changed, so recent days can move up or down for a while.
- Net revenue is before Valve’s share. “Net” is gross sales minus refunds and sales tax/VAT, before the Steam revenue share, chargebacks and payment adjustments. Switch to gross in Settings if you prefer.
- Retail key activations are left out. CD-key activations carry no money, so they are not counted. In-game purchases (microtransactions) are counted under their game.
- The first import may still be running. Until every past day has been downloaded, lifetime totals are partial.
- Hidden games. Games you hide in GameEarn are left out of totals and widgets.
Your monthly payments from Valve are the final word. Treat the numbers in GameEarn as an up-to-date estimate.
Wishlist days follow GMT
Steam reports wishlist activity by GMT (UTC) day, while sales use Pacific Time. GameEarn puts both on the same calendar date, so a wishlist day and a sales day can be offset by up to a few hours. Wishlist balances are the sum of daily adds minus deletes, purchases and gifts since the game’s first wishlist day; while that history is still downloading the app shows Syncing….
If you added a game that belongs to another partner, Steam will not share its wishlists, and GameEarn skips it without affecting your other games.
“Check your API key”
GameEarn shows Check your API key when Steam refuses the key (HTTP 401/403) or when the key has no access to sales data. Steam rate-limits an IP address after a refused key, so the app stops calling Steam with that key until you change it or tap refresh.
- The key was revoked or the group was deleted. Create a new Financial API Group (or regenerate its key) in Steamworks and paste the new key in Settings → Steam API key → Replace key.
- It is not a Financial API key. A regular publisher Web API key or a personal Steam Web API key cannot read sales. The key must come from a group created with Create Financial API Group.
- An IP allow list is set. If the group’s Manage WebAPI Key section lists allowed IP addresses, requests from your phone are blocked, because mobile networks change your IP all the time. Remove the IP addresses so the list is empty.
- The key was copied incompletely. The key is 32 letters and numbers (0–9, A–F). Copy it again without spaces or line breaks.
If Steam is down or your connection drops, the widget keeps the last numbers and tries again in about 15 minutes. If Steam reports too many requests, GameEarn waits an hour.
Widgets aren’t updating
- Widgets check Steam about once an hour. Opening the app or tapping the refresh button on a widget updates them right away.
- The operating system decides exactly when widgets refresh. Low Power Mode on iOS and battery optimization on Android can delay updates.
- Check your API key on a widget means Steam refused the key — see the section above.
- Add your API key means the app has no key yet. Add one, or turn on sample data.
- Importing your Steam sales means the first import is still running. Keep the app open for a few minutes.

The daily summary doesn’t arrive
- Check that notifications are allowed for GameEarn in system settings and that Daily summary is on in the app.
- The summary is sent once a day, after 03:00 Pacific Time, and only when Steam has sales data for yesterday.
- If you already opened the app and saw yesterday’s numbers, no notification is sent.
- Focus modes and Do Not Disturb can hide notifications.
Deleting your data
There is no account or server copy to delete. To remove everything from your device:
- Remove the key in SettingsSettings → Steam API key → Remove key deletes the key, the sales file and widget data on this device.
- Or uninstall the appRemove the widgets and delete the app. On iOS, Keychain items can remain after deletion, so remove the key first.
